It wasn't her fault; she was who she was and that you can not change. He was a simple; no he was an idealistic man with many hopes and dreams. Most of those hopes and dreams had been crushed by others or worse yet crushed by him. Can he love a person who does not and will not change? Can he be strong enough to stay emotional, or will he give away his soul out of fear? Either way, it seems that there is no way to get what he needs'¦Love. With all do respect honey, I love you but we can't go on this way'¦or did he mean 'I'¯.

I think you have an idea for a story here more than you have a story. Flesh it out. Show don't tell. Breathe life into the characters with your words. In this piece, these people could be any two people off the street. Make them remarkable. Memorable. Then it will be effective.
