my sanctum

massive oak sentries;
cherubim at the gates
of a pseudo Eden
great swords drawn and arched
to welcome the seeker of repose

a lush emerald blanket
cool on bare feet
gives no intimation of swelter
denied entry from above

the murmur of a stream
barely heard'
then replaced by the gentle
roar of the breeze
through the arbor canopy

inescapable peace awaits
the one who enters this haven
so often forsaken
by the industrious

here in this refuge
slumber beckons'then flees
tranquility is sovereign
above all but thoughts
reverie triumphs for a moment

a new consciousness conceived
on this island of serene reality;
in this place alone
is the soul truly free
