The Angry Young Man

The fat man, the bearded man, the holy man and the angry young man sat down together

Some time passed.

The bearded man stroked his beard.
This angered the angry young man.
Why do you stroke your fucking beard so much! He cried
Because it pleases me to do so, said the bearded man
Here - touch my beard, stroke it yourself
Feel what I feel
You might even like it.

The angry young man was too wound up and refused.

The holy man kneeled and began to pray.
This angered the angry young man.
Why do you pray so fucking much! He cried
Because it pleases me to do so, said the holy man
Here - take my Bible, read it yourself
Learn what I learn
You might even like it.

The angry young man was too wound up and refused.

The fat man was eating a large bar of chocolate.
This angered the angry young man.
Why do you eat so fucking much! He cried
Because it pleases me to do so, said the fat man
Here - have a piece, eat some yourself
Taste what I taste
You might even like it.

The angry young man was too wound up and refused.

Some time passed.

The bearded man stroked his beard, looked at the angry young man, took up his pen and wrote a poem about war.
The holy man paused from reading, looked at the angry young man, took up his pen and wrote a poem about humility.
The fat man finished his chocolate, looked at the angry young man, took up his pen and wrote a poem about love.

The angry young man was too wound up to write.

Some time passed.

The angry young man read the poem about war and the poem about humility and the poem about love.
He ran his fingers through his hair, and said for God's sake give me some chocolate
Then, with tears flowing freely, he started to write:
'The Young Man's Checklist of Imperatives '¦'

[This was written for Steve Chilson who wrote a poem called The Young Man's Checklist of Imperatives under the pen name of Vladimir Kopf]

I love this! It kept me completely hooked - reading it for the second time... Love the repetition in each verse.

(although I'd never say no to a bar of chocolate, no matter how wound up I was).

Hello lapoeta! I followed your footprints from Flickr into this promising group (I feel bright as a fig no less...) I loved this poem, so witty. I'm always a sucker for repetition in poems. I laughed at every "Why do you XXX so fucking much!" I'm sure Steve Chilson was delighted you wrote it - a big complement.

Very Interesting. I Like how you made the poem feel like you were speaking it in person. Not sure if this was your intention, but the personal touch I got from this piece as well as the uniqueness of it, intrigued me.
