THERE WAS A TIME

There was a time
When I held my breath,
Watched as the world passed by,
There was a time
When I closed my eyes,
And lifted my dreams upon high.
There was a time
When I cried for the clowns,
Their frowns did belie their amuse,
And a snowflake in Hell
Could once be explained
With a careful concise crafted ruse.
There was a time
When I turned my cheek,
"The meek shall inherit", 'tis said,
As ebony angels
Flayed 'pon my soul,
This parody contrived
Of wine and of bread.
There was a time.

I like the way the piece twists at the end. This is one of the better of your pieces that I've read so far. I kind of wondered why your poems started turning depressing all of a sudden though. It flows so smoothly that you don't really even think about it rhyming in your head. I guess that might have something to do with each line being so short.

But well done anyway comrade. I have a new piece I think you'll enjoy as well in kind of the same perspective as this.
