THERE WAS A TIME
There was a time
When I held my breath,
Watched as the world passed by,
There was a time
When I closed my eyes,
And lifted my dreams upon high.
There was a time
When I cried for the clowns,
Their frowns did belie their amuse,
And a snowflake in Hell
Could once be explained
With a careful concise crafted ruse.
There was a time
When I turned my cheek,
"The meek shall inherit", 'tis said,
As ebony angels
Flayed 'pon my soul,
This parody contrived
Of wine and of bread.
There was a time.
