I Am Not Lonely
I've never been afraid to be alone
for I have my thoughts
The echos of a mind with many canyons
Many corners still to turn
And many moments still unplayed
I've played in silence
like a child
Who cannot find a friend
But holds his spirit like a precious toy
To share in joy
When a soul is sent
My heart holds onto memories
both good and bad
Like dusty shelves in hidden rooms
Things that I ignore
And other points of view
I've seen little of this world
- it's true
I view things from afar
But what I know I treasure like a jewel
It dazzles so I do not look
Does that make me a fool?
I do not know what lonely is
I do not know what love is
I do not know what knowing is
But know this,
I am not a fool.

I totally agree with James! I completely relate to it, every word. Which goes to show you that, indeed, we aren't lonely!

Beautiful. The line "I've played in silence like a child who cannot find a friend" really resonated with me. What writer can't relate to this poem? Very touching. Really liked this!

"I do not know what lonely is
I do not know what love is
I do not know what knowing is
But know this,
I am not a fool."
This did it for me. In its entirety, it evoked waves of sensation in me the way that a poem should, with great rhythm and striking images- but that last stanza, that's golden. |

Made a "punch" to my heart and I feel the words. Great write and great imagery plus good choice of words. Lonely is a very powerful words and connotes so many things. Great Job!

My poetic intution detects some denial on it's radar. But I know where you are comming from, which is why I can appreciate a poem like this one.
