A Soldiers Wife

As I lay on the ground,
I look up at the stars.

But as I look at them,
beautiful as they are.

I wonder to myself,
what is my fate?

Shall I go on,
or is it to late?

Will he still be alive,
by tomorrow night?

Or will he have been killed,
never to return to my sight.

My heart is heavy,
the sadness goes so deep.

Everyday is a struggle,
feels like all I do is weep.

They all say tomorrow,
is a new day.

It might be better,
or it could be gray.

Even darker than before,
so to God I pray.

Keep my soldier alive,
even if it is for only one more day!

I disagree with dropping the 'it is' because you only want it to be for one more day deep in your heart I bet but know it could be longer.
The poem was sad and heartbreaking. Nice poem.

Your poem rhymes nicely. I would like to see you drop the adverb "so" wherever you can. In addition, I think it would sound better if you dropped, "it is" from the last line. In all this is a good poem and I enjoyed reading it very much.
