The Monster in My House

The Monster in My House

There is no light, nor moonlit beam
I let her in and didn't scream
I let her come in truth and dream
I made this monster in my house

There's the window and the door
She'll claw and scratch the empty floor
And I know she'll leave me nevermore
She is the monster in my house.

She tells me to forget that knight
He can't resist her bark and bite
For he has nothing for which to fight
The monster in my house.

There is no light, nor beauty fair
Just the hint of lovely hair
That hides a face of worn despair
Behind the monster in my house.

I watch him go and then I cry
Shall he live or shall I die?
I cannot give that sweet reply
Except to that monster in my house

He cannot love me near or far
My ugliness is but my scar
There is no beauty there to mar
Says the monster in my house

I wish to kill this monster here
To eradicate all death and fear
But I will only go more near
That awful monster in my house

For she alone will love me still
When I have sat and cried my fill
Her claws will urge my blood to spill
And I'll still have the monster to myself.
