Angry bugger

The face cold marble,
reredos
to screen the fire,
asbestos
so the glow
of hate
is cushioned,
yet the eyes,
stiffened
with all his might,
will blink,
and spark
the fury forth.

this is beautifully written and the cadence lends to an overall feeling of abrupt fury ready to errupt. at the same time, the marblesque quality of the statue is the perfect foil for the poet's projection- very clever and deeply felt.

the only critique for feedback i would bother mentioning is in regards to the title of the piece; it's "cute" and i felt that it took away from the rawness of the actual poem. i think i wanted a title that was more revelationary instead of a "ha.. well, duh." i hope that makes sense. i would definitely put this in my top 3 favorite pieces i've read on this website. thanks for sharing.

[ps: i just read your post below on "nothing grand" and that is sort of my point; the title detracts from what could be quite grand...]

Thanks Ethgar. I just think of it as a go at portrait painting - nothing 'grand'.

The use of reredos is perfectâ?¦ although I have to say that I only new it to be the ornate back of the altarâ?¦ I had no idea that it also referred to a fireplaceâ?¦ *I had look it up* but knowing that it plays well with the fire that is about o spill forth. This is a great snapshot of someone about to erupt into a belligerent rant.
