Taylor's Story Chapter 2

It was morning when Taylor stirred, half awake in bed. There was a piece of raw meat on a platter next to the bed, blood still covering it. He licked his lips but decided to wait till he talked with Chloe. He stood and walked to the door, tripping over his own feet, he caught himself on the door. He opened it quietly, trying not to disturb the others if they were still asleep. He looked down, seeing Rachel he opened the door more. 'What are you doing?' She jumped and turned to look at him. Her eyes reminded him of a cat, a little blue with green specks. Her hair was so black that the shine was a dark blue, gliding all the way to the floor, straight as a board. She turned half towards him and scooted back, letting him see a large, worn chessboard, the game half played. Taylor analyzed it and smirked. 'You're very talented. I bet you could even beat my brother.' He stepped over the board. 'Save a game for me, 'kay?'

He walked up to Adam who had found comfort on his bed, a novel on his lap. His light brown hair was ruffled and his eyes looked just like Rachel's. He decided not to disturb the young boy.

Looking around for something to do until the sun went down, a large stack of books drew his attention. Taylor plopped down next to them, reading the sides. All of them were diaries of the other vampires that had been there. What surprised him the most was a diary with the word 'Davishna' written on the side. Davishna had been there. It took him a second to realize this and he scoffed. 'There's no way. She hates humans.' He scratched his head. 'Whatever.'

All three of the vampires jumped as someone knocked lightly on the door. Rachel ran into Chloe's room and Adam grabbed Taylor's hand. Adam walked Taylor to Chloe's room and they both entered, closing the door behind them. Taylor's confusion was answered when he heard the door open. Chloe had gone out and to keep from hurting the children she would knock on the door for warning. The door closed with a bit of a slam and the children opened the door. Chloe was at the front door, dusting the dirt and mud off her dress.

'I was attacked in the market.' Her hair was matted and tangled. She pulled leaves and twigs out of her hair. Placing her walking stick next to the door she took her cloak off and placed the basket on the floor. 'I bought you a new book, Adam.' She handed it to him and kissed him on the cheek. 'Rachel, I got you a new bow. Your other one is about to break so get rid of it tonight.' She petted Rachel's hair and walked over to a chair next to the fire, plopping down, sending dust everywhere. She sneezed. 'I really need to clean this place.'

Taylor stepped toward her and she jumped out of the chair. 'Taylor!' She put her hand over her heart. 'I forgot you were here.' He worried expression turned to a smile as she sat back down.

He smirked. 'Why do you have vampire diaries?' He looked at them again and saw her frown out of the corner of his eye. 'Most vampires wouldn't give a human their journal.'

She shrugged. 'They all came to me for help and let me keep journals.' She walked to the bookcase and pulled down a book. 'Will you keep a journal for me?' He took the book gently in his hands and opened it. Taylor's family tree began to draw itself on the inside cover.

'Why do you do this? You can't read them.' He felt bad after saying it, her blind eyes showing hurt.

'I can feel the thoughts as they're writing.' She half smiled.

Rachel ran in and tugged on Chloe's sleeve. 'Okay. I'll be there in a minute.' She looked at Taylor with those dead eyes and sent a chill down his spine. 'I just ask you to help me learn about you.'

Chloe followed Rachel and a slight difference in her stance, a lonely, betrayed stance. He felt sorry for his words. Taylor grabbed a pen next to the bookshelf and began to write in the diary. He talked about Sade; he talked about Davishna's diary, he talk about what he had said to Chloe. He stopped writing, out of things to say.

Taylor listened as Chloe helped Rachel put her bow together. He decided to stay away, give Chloe some room. He stood and walked back into his temporary room and sat on the bed. The book seemed heavier since he had written in it. He figured all his thoughts were this heavy, a burden, and laughed at the thought. Setting the diary and pen aside he looked at the meat and shook his head. If he drank now the craving would overrun him constantly. He pushed it away and laid down, pulling out a book he had stuck her his arm.

'Davishna,' he opened the cover, on the inside it had her family tree, just like his. Some Taylor didn't know, others he knew to well. He shrugged. 'I guess it wouldn't hurt to read a little.'

Adam ran over and pounced on the bed. 'Will you read some to me?'

Taylor smiled and nodded.
