I am the Earth, You are the Sky

your lips are moving telling tales I wouldn't believe were worth a penny
in case you think I'm listening, I stopped at hello
I can see the way you've got your dreaming built up in the eye
a tornado set on self destruct, you're winding in and out
telling me things that even the sanest (or most insane) man wouldn't hear

sail away on rockets, darling
for you're already living way outside your reach
you think instead of butterflies and roses you've got galaxies and stars
you're twisting around a fantasy that in the end will only crash completely down
darling, the sun isn't shining just for you
the moon's blue because you're black with fear of flight

it's time to stretch those wings
see if the glue's dried and the paper's thick enough to glide

steady out those shaking hands
listen to my voice, you're playing games on eggshells

I don't think you'll come out of this alive
you're telling me a story that I'll bet isn't worth a dime
it's about sailing through the stars, touching the very clouds around her eyes
you're calling your lover Europa, but she's a mist pale moon
you're not even getting the equation right, no one's listening

set down your toys and ladders
they won't reach the constellations, you're playing with fire
I'm the earth that binds, listen to me, because your words aren't worth my time

you've got your head up in the clouds
here, crawling at your feet, I've got your heart in mine
so you want something from the heavens to sate your lover's lust?

let me be your angel
I'll show you how even I can outshine your precious stars

I promise, my kiss will be worth more than anything your mouth could weave

i really love the imagery in this one, but it feels more prose-y than poem-y if that makes sense. i would go through and see what insignificant words you could take out (like, and, but, etc.)...i find this not only streamlines my own work, but gives velocity to the piece and forces the reader to follow along quickly and doesn't let up until the end.

and speaking of the end, that line is fantastic.
