Pickles

Janie was rummaging through her locker, trying to find her homework for the next class. She found her homework from last month, bunches of fun size candy wrappers, Athena's poem that she was suppose to read, and other papers that she never knew existed. Everything except her homework. 'Urgh!' She slammed her locker door closed.
'Something wrong?'
Janie started. Luke's knack for showing up at the most awkward times of her day and his beautiful deep voice never got old. 'Oh, hi Luke. No, nothing's wrong. I was just looking for my homework.'
'Did you try your book bag?'
'Like I could find anything in there. I spent two minutes trying to find my French book and another three minutes trying to pull it out.'
He pulled her closer to him. 'Hmm'.well, maybe that means you should clean your bag every once in a while.' He put his hand on her waist and started guiding Janie to her next class.
'Pfft. Cleaning is for yellow bellies. Besides, being unorganized is a sign of a genius.'
Luke laughed. 'Yeah, you're a genius in the making. Are you still coming to my house after school?'
Janie looked down at her tattered shoes. 'No,' she mumbled. She tried to turn away from Luke but he would not let her go without an explanation.
'Why not?'
'Because'' she stared passed his shoulder at a couple making out. She sighed then looked down at her shoes again.
His arms became limp. Janie took a step back from Luke. 'Oh. I see how it is. You don't want to tell me. It's another secret you can't share with your boyfriend.'
Janie knew that Luke was acting like this to make her feel guilty. She was mad at herself for letting him get away with it. 'Luke, wait. The reason why I can't go to your house is because I have decided to go to the gym.'
Once again he pulled her closer. 'The gym? Why go there? Your body is perfect. Who wants a twig for a body anyways?'
She stared at the couple that was still making out. 'No I'm not. I'm too''
'What?'
'Weak.'
He laughed, his booming voice echoing off the courtyard. 'Wow! Weak. Is that all your worried about? Being weak doesn't sound too bad when you have me around.'
Janie caught herself smiling. This was suppose to be a very serious moment. She needed to put her mad face on. 'What if you're not around and I have the sudden urge for a pickle but I cannot get the jar open? I'll go insane if I can't satisfy my craving.'
'Who has a craving for pickles?'
'I don't know! But what if that happens?'
Luke gave her a kiss then hugged her. 'I'll make sure to open the pickle jar before I leave,' he whispered in her ear.

I love this short story, I thought you used a good amount of description, and I found the ending quite amusing, and yet at the same time the ending is also sumwat romantic, nice work!!

This is a cute story. There's a little humor (nicely done) and just a little tension. The only two things I would change are: "she stared PAST his shoulder" or maybe use the word over; and when she says, "...I have decided to go to the gym..." is a little formal. Most would say, "I've". But hey, perhaps she is trying to stress her point. Overall, this is a sweet little scene - perceptively done. Thanks for sharing!
