Upon My Breakfast Table

It lays there
a silky slithering
reminder -
a soothsayer
of the day before.
The blues and yellows
keep the many secrets
of sermons in the pews
woven whispers among the fibers
of its subtle crucifixes
awaiting my husband's hands
to tie them
tightly around his neck again.
