The Storm Raged On-Physical Abuse

Physical Abuse

And the storm roars on
His hand met her cheek with a stinging slap
He doesn't have to put up with her crap.
A crackling noise cuts through the dawn

And the storm roars on
She whimpers and threatens to leave him
She won't shut up so he slaps her again
She cries over a love that is gone

And the storm roars on
He goes to the fridge and finds a beer
She grabs her purse; she's leaving here
Slaps her again, she's his worthless pawn

And the storm roars on
She crawls to the phone; makes a call out of fear
He tells her he's sorry, won't happen again Dear
Police arrive; She smiles, holding her son

And the storm brews
She says she'll do better; It'll be all right
They hug, they cuddle, love through the night
Forgiveness is the Godly thing to do

And the storm brews
She tries to be good, so afraid that she won't
She's damned if she does and damned if she don't
She cries over a love that is through

And the storm roars again
She cries and he hits her time after time
This time she gave her life for her crime
God help the next woman who tries to please Him

I enjoyed this very much. I especially liked the repetition which brought a sense of discomfort and urgency to this poem. It touched on so many stories of abuse I've heard before but I wasn't bored and I was pressed to keep on reading even though I knew the inevitable outcome of the "she" in the poem. Another thing I really liked was that the rhyme scheme was delicate and seemed unforced. Great job all around.
