Years Later

From the back
That greying nape
And rounded ear
Appeared familiar,
And at once my heart
Leapt as if startled
By a sudden sound--
Only to fall thudding
In hollow chambers,
Echoing the sad refrain
Of unrequited love
And silent pain.

boy...you REALLY touched a nerve here! I just recently ran into a man I thought I could die for "back then" and he was a sore disappointment to mine eyes! "Thank God for unanswered prayers"!

Powerful and full of emotions that I think most can relate to in later years. :)
