VIVO LA REVOLUCION

In the void / between attacks
I saw a soldier take a bead
on Salvatore. I shot him.
When Sal and I rolled him over
we were amazed to find
E. Gartner Cole, the President
of the United States.
During that week / we found
among the wrecks
that once were men
a role call of emirs
senators, arms manufacturers
commandantes, blind scientists
cabinet members, and MP's.
We grew inured to
piles of potentates
and the graves of generals.

I once kindled a fire
by rubbing together
a minister of finance
and a secretary of war.

hmmm...I hardly ever read anybody else's poetry but this is pretty good for a change. I admire the deep intimate sarcasm underneath a pile of ruble...kudos

Beautifully written. Lovely to read.
I can imagine that food cooked over such a fire might taste a little bitter!

Wouldn't that be wonderful: if they could just all go and fight each other and leave us in peace (in both senses).

I loved (like all your other commentees) the final stanza; I was also taken with the US president as a sniper - in fact, I enjoyed the whole read! Great work.
