The Color of Love

what makes you love me?

two sides
of the same street

some say
it can never be

some say
there's no you and me

we decide
how it will be

we choose
our day to day

like a love
that will never
go away

we pray
that this world
will change
its ways

one that keeps
an I away from I

one that keeps
just getting by

one that screams
so loud ~its def cry

your suppose
to stay on your side

you with
your racist pride

they make you decide
against yourself

than offer
no help
for your broken heart

its all
a part of segregation
an infestation
of an infected nation

that says
I am better than he

they say
we can never be

I say
just wait and see

I always do
what's right for me

open your eyes
and SEE

that love
is defined
by HE

who are we
to contradict
the Almighty

we are not
defined by
sight only

in these
souls cages
we fight

the color
of our skin

instead
of looking within

seeing loves
true color~light

a rainbow array
side by side

with no pride
or dominance
an omniscient
idea

of how
good it is

to be
a you and a me

to really
be seen

to really
be loved

we pray
to heaven
above

for a time
of change

but change
never comes
without pain

pain never
comes without blame

blame never
covers shame

we must
remain strong

to speak loud
the wrongs

it falls
in the hands
of the conscious few

to expand
our point of view

to save us
from a history
long past

to change
the lot
that's been cast

to rescue
these broken
hearts

that keep us
apart

to support
the I and I

one love
risen high

beyond
these borders
that are

one color

I love the message you send out with this poem. It's very true, deep, and heartfelt. The only problem I have with this poem is that its flow seemed stilted to me. The short stanzas made my reading of it a bit awkward, but otherwise it was excellent.

That's right and you say it best. We love who we love. We all have hearts and souls and no racist can deny that. Great work!
