Axis of the Undead, Part One

* The following is a historical account of Hitler's tests and interests in preserving the dead and reanimating them. Author and historian Zigler B. Roshanty has written numerous articles and half a dozen books on the subject. He is the preeminent voice in the matters of Hitler's Zombies.

[...]As a reactionary measure, the U.S. government chose to pursue rather unorthodox methods of combat itself during World War II. The original idea was to mirror Hitler's own esoteric practices, perhaps using his same far-flung hypotheses to ultimately destroy the Nazis. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was adamant that, if Americans could not waste barley and grains on beer, they most certainly could not waste soldiers if it could be helped.

Thus, the clandestine government group, General Animation Responsibilities, was created, some say by Roosevelt himself. He was, after all, a fan of expanding government. The G.A.R. consisted of over one hundred scientists sworn to secrecy for the life of the project (or at least until August 6, 1945, when entire cities became infected with the aforementioned ----- Virus.

[...]

Neurologist Lou Chio, one of the last surviving members of the group, remembered the beginnings of the project very well:

"Well, I can't tell you the exact date that they brought us in, but I can tell you what that day was like. I remember it like the birth of my first son. It was horrible. We were forced to sign hundreds of legal documents - swearing us to keep the information we would encounter confidential and all that blah blah blah - and then taken down a long corridor to a room filled with...them.

"Not them. Not them yet, I should say. It was a room full of brothers and sons and fathers. That's how it seemed at the time, because they were all fresh, even if they weren't all whole. Lying on the tables like that, they just looked so...real, so different from what we would turn them into. My background in the medical field was restricted to [...]"

[...]Even though Hitler himself was unaware that the Allied Powers - specifically the United States - were engaging in said mirroring, he did not stop his openly immodest proposals of bringing dead Nazi soldiers back to life, if but for short periods of time.

By January 1, 1942 when the Declaration of the United Nations was signed, Hitler had already realigned himself with the Thule Society, a secretive occultist group based on earlier Greek Legends. It was about this time that Hitler first engaged the idea of using dead soldiers for fodder on the battlefield. He considered dead Aryans to be a waste to his cause and concerned himself with ideas on how to remedy the problem with the leaders of the Thule.

However, a matter of philosophy prevented the Nazis from dominating the reasearch field. The Thule was not as concerned with the Occult as it was with certain bigoted principles. Members of the Thule suggested they use blacks and Jews as test subjects and later as the soldiers going into battle. They believed that it was better to use them as they wished, because they undermined their value as humans in the first place.

Hitler vehemently opposed the idea. "If we are to obtain victory of any kind," he was rumored to have said, "it must be with our kind. Not with them [The Jews]."

Surprisingly, even with a two-to-three year headstart, the Nazis lagged on the finer points of the project, until the United States and Britain were able to catch up to - and most likely, surpass - them.

Adolf Hitler was furious.
