Music and Horses

Some of the things I like to include in my books are music and horses, two things that I possess no particular talent for. Instead of envy seeping its way in, I find that I admire those who can sing well or play a musical instrument. I am in awe when I listen to talented musicians and could only dream of being so gifted. This holds true when I see someone who can handle a horse. They are such beautiful creatures and to ride such an animal in a way that you are almost one with it is amazing to me. I have ridden a few times but as often as I managed to make it from point A to point B, I've fallen off! I compare my lack of horsemanship to my abilities as a skier or a skater. Be it on ice, snow, water, or rollers ' I did not stick with it long enough to get any good.
Thankfully, God did not create us all as having the same gifts. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone in the world rode horses or snow skied? There would be bottle-necked traffic on trail rides and you'd have to pay tolls on the slopes in addition to your ski pass! Although I'm new at being a published author, I have had people tell me how much they admire my abilities as a writer. Having enough imagination to create characters and story lines amazes them just like music and horses amaze me. It is easy for me to write as it is for a musician to pluck keys on a piano to create beautiful music, or a skier to navigate an expert run without fear that he may break his neck on the way down!
Don't be dismayed if there are things you can't do, because there are - and don't be fooled into thinking you have no talents. I used to feel this way because I did not acknowledge my abilities as God-given. Until I was able to do that, doors started to open. Remember this: there is a gifted person inside all of us!

Too true. I am in awe of people that can dance and ice skate, just as you are with music and horses. This piece is inspirational, and very honest indeed. I liked it a lot.
