A Country Girl Reminisces

Country girl visits the city
Cherishes bits and pieces
Sights and sounds fascinating
Concentrating on one thought

She overcomes distractions
Smells in heavy winter air
Smokey factory stenches
Exhausts fuming and choking

City folks constantly moving
Harried last minute shoppers
People on every corner
Complaining about winter

Red nose and cold rosy cheeks
Delighting in falling snow
Hands burrowed in warm mittens
Skipping in Slushy puddles

Reaching her destination
Sweet aromas intertwine
Sugar plums and candy canes
Cinnamon sticks and spices

A gingerbread house so tall
Elves and reindeer at his feet
The one who makes dreams come true
Jolly old Saint Nicholas

It's been a while since I've looked at this. There's a few places I could imporve it. But I was a country girl and I was facinated with the city.

I like honest, straightforward words. This is a poetic memoir, easy to read and painted like an Impressionist canvas. Nice work.

You have created great images in this poem. A country girls trip to a city to see St Nicholas . I like the way you have gave us an insight into her trip and all the distractions on her way ........ Great work

I loved the imagery. I could smell the gingerbread. Makes me wish for Christmas.
