Ocean Waves
Seaweed clings to my body
Pulled 'round by swirling water
Whales power away beneath me
Could possibly sink a tanker
Riding ocean waves
My eyes see so much
Lights going in a single line
Feet padding slowly, ghostly
I stay my course in time
Through chilly ocean waves
Lobster pots rattle deep below
Flotsam, jetsam slide past my vision
Tumbled lines lost by fishermen
Many things forgotten by them
Now tossed by ocean waves
Can you map the ocean floor?
Find one small thing lost there
I keep searching the waves
Looking for what I lost here
Searching frozen ocean waves
Cannot find what I need
Whales singing, voices weeping
Staring at God's creation
Seeing its beautiful indifference
All under ocean waves
Thought I saw a glimpse
Thought I saw her here
But, no, the vision's gone
Like the green foam there
On blue ocean waves
I feel the breaker
Sloping down
Going out to sea
I feel I might
Get crushed under
By water above me
I feel the pull
Of the undertow
Sucking me out to drown
But I won't
Give up this search
Until you I've found
Sea-green merrows
Singing to me
"Come as you be
Come as you be
Come as you are
To drown in the sea
You are nothing since
Lost, insignificance"
