This is the Life

This happened today.

A Californian ate flounder and vegetables. She drank a zinfandel and five minutes later, she shoved her fingers down her throat, then she brushed her teeth. She is 28 years old, about 5' 8' tall, and weighs about 95 lbs, she is unhappy with her weight and wishes she could lose 10 lbs and she probably will.

A New Yorker had a sirloin with a baked potato, carrots and peas, red wine, and apple pie with a cup of coffee for desert. Later, before he went to bed, he ate a couple of sandwiches, ham and cheese on rye and had two glasses of milk, he is 52 years old, 5'8' tall, and weighs about 270 lbs, although his pants size has increased another 2 inches and he has no sex life, he feels happy and content.

In San Antonio, a Texan ate brisket, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob with plenty of butter, peas, and iced tea. Earlier, for breakfast he went to his favorite restaurant and had three stacks of pancakes with plenty of real butter and syrup, several biscuits, sausage, a large serving of hash browns, and plenty of milk. He was in a lousy mood so when his third order of pancakes was not to his liking he sent it back telling the waiter, 'How can you possibly mess up pancakes? Throw this crap out with the idiot who cooked it' , he is 37 years old, stands tall at 5'11', and weighs 390 lbs, the man is married to a woman, who matches him pound for pound, and each can barely walk, in fact, she is 34 years old and uses a walker, he wobbles.

There is a child somewhere, he is weak and cannot walk. Today humanitarian aid workers fed him some mush that he does not remember, most of the time he does not know what he is eating. Before the humanitarian aid workers arrived, he ate his own feces. He is 4 years old, we cannot accurately measure him because he lays in a fetal position with an overly bloated stomach and he is so weak that stretching his body is simply too painful. He is extremely small for his age, and will soon die, but he is always grateful for what they give him to eat.

This happened today, really.

Sad, but as you say, true. Nicely written in that it is neither a sermon nor a lecture.....Will it provoke any positive action in any of us? I hope so - even if it's only the grossly inadequate few quid that we give in a pathetic attempt to salve our consciences.

Compelling and true. Maybe not exactly true but I would guess there's people that fit those descriptions almost to the last word. When you put them all together it gives a clear message and perspective to the reader. Thanks for posting this.
