In Memory of an Angel
I remember. I remember you!
On a warm day . . . On the porch swing in the sunlight.
With your flowers . . . Singing church songs in your white dress.
I was standing by you when you fell down and took your last breath.
You were not so old then . . . They played the violin over your coffin.
Angel. I want to know, where do the angels go?
I want to know, who hides the sun?
I want to know, who keeps watch of you all through the night?
Angel! Tell the angels you have come.
Tell them I already have one!
A hundred years ago . . . I've grown a few since then.
A thousand miles . . . a million people I have met.
And yet I still come home and look over the place they laid you down.
In all my journeys . . . not one other angel have I ever found.
I want to know, where do the angels go?
I want to know, who hides the sun?
I want to know, who keeps watch of you all through the night?
Angel! Tell the angels you have come.
Tell them I already have one!
I was just a kid.
How could you have mattered so much?
You know what they say about angels . . .
It only takes one little touch'¦
I want to know, where do the angels go?
I want to know, who hides the sun?
I want to know, who keeps watch of you all through the night?
Angel! Tell the angels you have come.
Tell them I already have one!
