City Smells~In Miami

the Miami heat
smells of multi-cultural
baskets, arenas
and media hyenas
that never go away

24 hours a day
someone's at play

the politicians
are draining the accounts
the millionaire's
can be found
do'n the same

the poor are
on the corner
feel'n no shame

the ocean breeze
blows its hot
sinfully sweet smell'n
air thru its streets
and down back
allies

the unemployment
tallies an all time high

boats found on
the Key Biscayne side
with its new arrivals

hope'n the survival
is better than Cuba and Haiti

a parade of rainbow colors
lives on The Beach
each group in his
own neighborhood

like the northern burrows
but I-9 divides us

the Latinas
with their cantinas
that smell of fried
goodness

Jamaican pride
on its side
swing to that
Marley beat

Opalocka
with its church and hookers
soul food nurtures
it's inhabitants

Homestead
where the Jed's
live on their farms

the charms of South
Beach are feathers in a
bright colored cap

North Beach
an Israel scene
closed on Saturdays

everyday
smells of stars, smack
and car jacks

its our city
Miami home
of the millionaire
and 50 different colors
of the
son of man

all can get
what they need
they reach down
and plant the seeds

of the new
multi-cultural world
and wait for its growth
with hope
for another
bright shiney day

where the world
comes to play
and is forgiven
for all its sins
