mirage
With dreams soaring and heart vacillating
I set off in the desert unending
Solitary, very solitary
I went chasing the fairer dream
Stealthily I lead, without giving whispers to ears
Days went on, only sand, no bed to rest on
The longing grew for the plain, fairest dream.
The sun was scorching, earth baked.
Winds lashed against me
Then too I moved in pursuit of the dream,
Finally thirst beat me, throat choked
I started vandalizing for water.
Tormented by thirst and dreams,
I moved even then.
I moved up a sand dune.
When I reached the summit
Dazzling water saw me
A hope flashed-
Clenching my tears and sweat,
Incessantly I walked and jumped into the water,
But alas! I fell on blue sand
I realized an illusion, a mere mirage
Blank, frozen, cheated, I turned back,
I crawled back, thought-
I would get the resurrected dreams someday.
But the dreams and water are waiting
Somewhere behind the mirage
I didn't see them then,
The mirage lived for ever.
