The Unknown

I stand here at the edge of this abyss,
the depth of which cannot be seen.

I step to the edge, then hesitate,
questioning my motivation.

I stand frozen, wondering if the risk is
worth what could be attained.

I stare so intensely,
the darkness begins to overtake me.

I allow myself to be consumed in it.
As I do, I am blinded to everything around.

I am alone, the image of myself,
now vividly standing before me.

As I peer into the eyes of this imagining,
they become a gateway to my soul.

In that moment of pure honesty,
all reluctance vanishes.

I step to the edge, take the hand of fate,
and as a quiet prayer is whispered,

I dive into this abyss, this mystery, the unknown.
