Hate Crimes
Taken from an article by Noah Trister, Associated Press Writer
'The teenager suspected of a hatchet-and-gun attack in a Massachusetts gay bar and in the killing of two people in Arkansas, including a policeman, died Sunday of wounds suffered in a gun battle with officers, authorities said.
Jacob D. Robida, 18, died at 3:38 a.m. Sunday at Cox-South Hospital in Springfield, Mo., said hospital spokesman Randy Berger.'
I wish he hadn't died. I wish that it had gone to trial. Although, I'm sure, with our government currently, the hate crime would have been overlooked compared to the killing of a police officer (which is punishable by death in Arkansas). Not that I think that the police officer that was killed is inconsequential, I just hate how people conveniently stress the crime that they can mentally handle easier.
I want the Supreme Court to be faced with punishing a man for his crimes against humanity. I want the trial to be public. I want him to look in the eyes of every homosexual and homo-friendly person in this country and explain to them why he tried to kill people that he didn't even know. I want him to explain why my best friend is beat up at his college every other week because he's gay. I want to know why I got suspended for telling the principal that she was being being a bitch by not punishing the football players that torched Toby's car. I want to know why my father loved him like his own son until he found out that he was gay. Now, he's not allowed in our house. I want Robida to explain why he hates people so much.
I want to be able to kick him in the nuts.

Agree with everything you say here Kelly - as with another story of yours that I just read, you certainly pack a punch.
I like the way you progress from discussing this news story to the more personal matter - to you - of your friend being victimised and your dad's homophobia. You really bring matters home.
And I love the simple bluntness of the last line. |

| People project what they cannot deal with in themselves onto others. The 'Scapegoat' is always needed. |

ooooowww - you want a just ballance. I believe in Karma. Only thing, most people who work against it never realize what is happening; sink deeper into more hate, more lies, seperating themselves - hopelessness sets in ... then the hurting person hurts a person.
... another cycle is formed ... & ... "I didn't do it - wasn't me!"
God REQUIRES a just ballance - and He gets it! |

We'd all love to know why people hate so much.
Perhaps it's righteousness, the belief that people who are different are to be blamed for everything that goes wrong. That they seem to be more often rewarded than the "ordinary" (I know it isn't so, but perception is something else.)
It's not just homosexuals who get picked on - it's anybody who seems to be out of the norm, who just might not get the support of the general population.
That much I now - I've been on the outside looking in too long not to feel the pain of those who get victimised, first by the robidas of the world, and then by the rest of society, who turn a blind eye.
And no, I'm not a homosexual or black or jewish or islamic. I'm just one who knows how it feels to be different from what's called the norm. |
