City of the Dead
City of the dead
Sky turned red
Alone
All the smart ones fled
Just you
And the city
Filled with the dead
Realities the nightmare
And this is your life
You tried to stay
You tried to survive
You thought the dead
Could be brought back to life
But they're dead, and walking
A waste of space and time
Day one
As I said
It's the city of the dead
And you're the only one with life
You walk a road of mercy
But kindness is your strife
No fun
You communicate
But all you get is shallow moans
And time piercing eyes
Hands reach for your neck
You're going to die
They miss
What God there is
Has just saved your life
Day two
You spend in shelter
A safe place to reside
Food
Water
Memories
Good view of the sky
On top of a building
Three stories high
All the things that you've wanted
Are kept safe inside
Away from the murderers
Away from their cries
Cries for your blood
Cries for your life
...
You still want to help them
You let one inside
Day three
Not so alone
A friend chained down
With no signs of struggle
He just stares with emptiness
Filled in it's eyes
You try to change it
To seem more alive
To try and bring the dead back to life
...
Surgery
Experiments
Incisions
Electricity
But no spark of life
...
It's going to make
For a long grueling night
Day four
Your push for more
You want success
With no rest you continue
Just giving your best
His brothers beat on the doors down below
Is it affection they show?
Do they want him back?
Time for him to go?
No
They can't get inside
You continue on
With no signs of change
He just lays there
Breathing
Watching
Wanting
Wanting freedom
Freedom to take your life
You know you can't change him
But in the back of your mind
You have to deny
or else
Insanity takes sight
Day 5
Just more time you have to survive
You've let him free
Free to his brothers
Sisters
Family
Something you may never see
Are you not deserving?
Just sit and kill
Kill the time
Play your games
Live this shallow experience
That some would call life
Day 6
A choir inside your mind sings
Songs of perfection
But you're trapped
And longing
Longing for life
Out side these walls
But out side the walls is death
And that death is walking
The city is throbbing
With vivid not-life
A change in location
May keep you alive
...
A noise
A shatter
Glass falls to the floor
You lock the door
As the knob starts to spin
An endless army
A fight you can't win
Day 7
Lucky seven
But you're still far from heaven
For again, God saved your life
As it all flashed before your eyes
It's been seven days
And now it's time to rest
This past week has not been the best
You regret your decision
Your sanity
Being put to the test...
Day 8
A twist of fate
Wondering the city
Which you now hate
What first looked like home
You now want to escape
But the city has walls
And you're trapped inside
You try to climb them
You have to get out
...
You get to the top
You see the sunset
You see people with normal lives
And they see you
With the same piercing eyes
Their stares send you falling
You land on your back
...
Wake up
...
Wake up
...
WAKE UP
...
You're awake
Day 9
You were out for a while
Too long?
No you're fine
We found you just in time
Us?
Later...
Now we must hide
...
That night
...
We brought you to a refuge
You'll be safe for a while
We are the society
We are all alive
We've been watching you
And your race from the dead
We know you wish this was all in your head
Just be glad you didn't end up like Ed...
But it's alright
We are the Society, the Society of life
Now take a break for the night...
Day 10
You get to know us
And know us quite well
We've been here for ages
And have stories to tell
We are all close
And for weeks have survived
There are twelve of us
and now thirteen
Though we started out with twentythree
Did you really expect
These past few weeks
To be all that bright?
...
You take in our knowledge
...
You now know it's pointless
And no good to hide
The dead can't be brought back to life
And there is now no escape
You can't go to the light
The light that was once your life
Outside
...
you cry
...
all through the night
...
Day 11
You wake up to groans
Just Three after seven
[7:03] the alarm clock reads
A.M. or P.M. it doesn't matter
For eleven days...
You lived a lie
That slowly formed over time
You could have escaped
...
You look out the window
...
Clouds start to form
...
They resemble the freedom
Which from your arms was torn
...
Rain starts to fall
...
We give you a bucket
To go to the roof
And fill with fresh water
...
You go to the roof
The rain so refreshing
Gives you thoughts
That it's not so depressing
Day 12
The world is not quite hell
Family
Food
Water
Memories
A chance for life
A slight break from all your strife
You go to the roof
And look at the red sky
Tune out the moaning
Watch the white clouds roll by
Still wanting freedom
From the four walls gripped so tight
But now at least
Some pains are made right
Maybe now you can sleep good tonight
Maybe this world could be paradise
Day 13
You wake up
Your mind is clean
Day thirteen
And almost two weeks!
You've made it this far
You've made this your life
Over the night
And you woke up in paradise
...Just something doesn't feel just right
...
A noise
The door falls down
You hear the moans
The groans
Shouts of pain
The Dead pour in like the rain
The Society of life is being changed
The Society of The Dead...
Now at home in their city
You are alone
You have to flee
You run
Sprint
Get away
Cornered
...
Not this way
Lost
No escape...
Cornered
The end is today
There must be a way
No...
This is the end
The Dead is approaching
A sharp pain
Their teeth sink into your neck
Your world fades to black...
Forever
In the city of the dead
At least now you have friends
and you're just like them....

| I love this piece. I've been trying to write something along this line for a long time and it never comes out the way I want. You did it very well. |

| Wow, can i say it shattered the epitemy of lies that i may or may not have seen throughout my time?...It's WONDERFUL very full and expressive it's like I'm there and that's what I feel is all so REAL. Lovely, to finally feel out fo such an event such a time for each day someones life that is different and hard but yet, so relative and worthwhile-to even just be depressed it's as if this person holds a sparkle of survival to just then be happy knowing that some people are like this person (her or him), and there seems to be signs that this person is given in order to hang on-i'm thinking is this person going through pain of not having any friends and feeling outcasted or, is this person homeless or in a group home? Well, it's wonderful as it is, i don't think i'd change a thing, Good for you! I'm surprised noone else has commented on this, well I'm glad to be the first one-sorry there's nothing you can change-that's a good thing though ofcourse. :) |
