Summer Season: The Best of My Life

The shackles are released
And I am soaring through the air
To a fate only time could unfold

Pocketed between pillows in the sky
Glorious and weightless
I see through the tiny window of 14c
An existence that taunts my very own
Settled between middle class failure and adult misery
Plastic tray tables formed for all of the above
I sink in and let my eyes bounce through the rays of light
The shades and patches and wonder of it all
Freefall
Viewing clouds from above, and leaving
Leaving
Leaving

Patches of green along the splattered country side
An hour intro to the summer of my life
Crashing into reality, my journey has yet to begin

Dim and surreal
Hands searching blindly for the light
Mind reaching for sight
What am I doing here?
Connection is found through a set of eyes
that have somehow known me all my life
And I will never be lost again

Melodic sounds formed into words
Which float upon the air and whisper
Things that teach me
Laugh with me, cry with me
Exist and understand
Understanding existence

The friendship is solid
And our times are golden and filled with joy
Toss that head back and laugh it up
So hard and so high that the deities amongst the heavens
Envy what dreams we may have

The warmth of that summer air will stay in my veins
and flow through the cold months of separation
I can taste goodbye upon my lips
But never shall I say it
Until we meet again
Shalom, my hippie friend.

The limitless possibilities of summer and youth crashing beautifully against the precipituous demands of the cold 'real world' of the fall and adulthood. This was a great glimpse into that beautifully grey area in all of our lives.

Sounds like a summer of love... or maybe that was the hippie comment talking...
This is a great little freefall through happiness and elation. Love several lines:
(The first three - great opening stanza)
Pocketed between pillows in the sky
Glorious and weightless

Connection is found through a set of eyes
that have somehow known me all my life
And I will never be lost again

So hard and so high that the deities amongst the heavens
Envy what dreams we may have

And the whole last stanza as well! You've got some great imagery in this piece, very inviting. I love it!

Vivid is the word that comes to mind...it's a beautiful piece...reading this makes me want to abandon my mundane everyday activities and fling my arms wide and take in a deep breath of fresh air.

"I can taste goodbye upon my lips
But never shall I say it"

wonderful word choice...the description of the summer reminds me of Robert Frost.

love the word play, flow, and reckless abandon of this one.

I also love the picture I can paint in my head using the words and descriptions you provide.
