Sara Black's eyes snapped open, her mind working furiously as she took in the carnage around her. People all around her were screaming, sobbing and moaning. Some were already dead and the more capable of the survivors were trying to free others from the wreckage. Sara watched from her seat at the back of the plane as one of the wings slowly fell toward the beach, causing everyone beneath it to scurry away like ants for fear of being crushed.
Smiling, Sara turned to the man seated beside her. He was dead, most likely from massive head trauma, not that Sara particularly cared. She began searching his pockets for the keys to her handcuffs but stopped abruptly when she felt the cold steel of a gun barrel against the back of her neck.
'You thought I died in the crash, didn't you?' asked a voice she knew far too well.
'I had hoped, Paul, but despite my efforts you insist on living,' Sara retorted.
'Up, get up,' Agent Paul Harding ordered, dragging Sara to her feet and pushing her toward the edge of the plane wreckage. As Sara readied herself to jump down to the sand, Paul shoved her sharply in the back, causing her to land face first on the beach. The agent then jumped down and pulled her up by the collar of her jacket.
'Well, that was unnecessary,' Sara fumed, spitting out a mouthful of sand.
'You think I've forgotten about you kicking me in the balls at the airport?' Paul asked, pushing Sara toward the tree-line.
'You are going to be so sorry when I get out of these cuffs,' she snarled, shrugging his hand off her shoulder.
'I've already proven that I'm not afraid to shoot you Sara, just give me a reason, I'll blow out your brains in a second.'

Jacob Carcer awoke in a daze, his head pounding and his world spinning uncontrollably. He couldn't hear anything but white noise, even though he could see people screaming and crying all around him. Calmly, he found the buckle on his seatbelt and freed himself from the wrecked plane only to find his legs were trapped by the body of a man oozing blood from his forehead. Carefully, he extracted his feet, one by one, and fell backwards onto the beach.
Winded and shocked, Jacob just lay there for a few minutes, drawing in ragged breaths, his eyes closed to the harsh sun that was beating down on him. Eventually, he pulled himself up and unsteadily made his way toward a clump of palm trees sitting on the edge of a huge forest. Even though he ran as fast as his legs would allow, it seemed to take an age to reach the trees. Finally reaching the shade, he sank against the truck of one of the towering palms and watched the crowd and the pure chaos that was emerging on the seemingly isolated beach.
As he watched, a woman dressed entirely in black came flying out of the rear section of the plane, followed almost immediately by a man dressed in a tailored suit holding a gun. The man pulled the woman to her feet and began pushing her in Jacob's direction. As the pair got closer, Jacob could see the woman's hands were cuffed in front of her body. The suited man pushed her to the ground in front of Jacob, his gun still pointed directly at her. As the woman pushed herself back onto her knees, Jacob caught her gaze and what he saw in her eyes made him shiver.
'Hey kid, I'm Agent Paul Harding and this piece of filth here is Sara Black,' Agent Harding slammed Sara against a nearby tree and proceeded to cuff her to it. 'I need you to watch her for me okay? If she so much as rattles those cuffs, shout at me until I come over, got it?' Jacob was unwilling to be part of whatever was going on between the pair, but the general rule was to listen to the man with the gun so he nodded and watched as Agent Harding ran off to help free people who were still trapped beneath the wreckage.

Harley Flores stopped screaming and looked skyward. Seeing no birds she breathed a sigh of relief and stood up, taking in her surroundings. Looking around she saw dozens of people in dire need of medical attention. There were so many, with various injuries, but what was life without its challenges? Unconsciously, she straightened her clothes before getting to work. She made her way over to a young man who had a large gash in his upper arm.
'Does anyone have anything I can use for bandages?' she shouted at no-one in particular, hoping someone was paying attention.
'Here,' an African-American man in a ripped suit rushed over and handed her some strips of material.
'Thanks,' Harley smiled at him and took a strip to wrap around the wound.
'You're welcome. My name's Tony Evans, are you a doctor?' he asked, following Harley to the next patient with the makeshift bandages.
'I'm getting there,' she answered, smiling grimly to herself. Harley stood over a young woman with long red hair who was holding her head and gazing in shock at a jagged piece of metal that had buried itself deeply in her leg. 'Hi, I'm Harley and this is Tony, we're here to help.'

Amy Bennett lifted her head out of the sand and immediately coughed up what seemed like half the beach. Keeping her eyes firmly shut, she reached out for a nonexistent glass of water to rinse the sand and dirt out of her throat. She heard muffled voices with strange accents all around her, people everywhere were shouting and screaming. Trying to block them out, Amy began to crawl forward stopping when her hand landed in something wet.
Afraid of what she was about to see, Amy opened her eyes, expecting to see pools of blood and piles of intestines, only to find that she had crawled into the water. The small waves lapped at her knees and wet the hem of her green t-shirt. Tensing her muscles, Amy stood and began making her way up the beach.

Celine Roberts ran a sand covered hand through her hair, tearing her gaze away from the clump of metal in her leg to look up at Harley and Tony. Celine was having a hard time believing what was going on. Planes crashlanding on islands with white sandy beaches and palm trees was something you only saw in the movies or on TV.
'I'm Celine. Do you have a cigarette?' she asked the pair, a goofy grin on her face. 'That would help.' She sucked air through her teeth sharply as pain shot from her leg all the way up her body. 'This is definitely not helping.' She wrapped a hand around the shrapnel and pulled as hard as she could, letting only a small yelp of pain escape her lips as the metal was ripped from her flesh. Harley was on her in a flash, taking bandages from Tony to mop up the fresh blood.
'You know, that probably wasn't the best thing to do, but it's still fixable,' Harley said as she worked. 'There.' Harley finished the bandaging off with a tight knot, making Celine flinch but it did feel much better than before.
'Thanks,' she muttered, she had never been overly confident around strangers.

Harley smiled, another happy customer. 'Who's next?' she asked, rubbing her hands together and looking around. She was about to move on to a man who had blood running down his face when a man in a black suit came jogging up to her.
'Hi, Paul Harding,' he said, holding out his hand.
'Harley Flores,' Harley introduced herself, shaking Paul's hand.
'Tony Evans,' Tony also shook the suited man's hand. 'How can we help?'
'Well you two seem to be the only calm people on this beach and I need some help organising everyone. We need to get these bodies buried as quickly as possible,' Paul said in a tone that suggested he was used to being in charge.
'Okay, I have shovels and pickaxes in my bag if we can find it, but I'm not sure how many of these people are actually capable of digging,' Harley scanned the beach, looking for her green duffel bag.
'Oh, don't worry about that, I have the perfect candidate for a little bit of manual labour,' Paul smiled, glancing toward the tree line and his prisoner.
'You have shovels in your bag?' Tony asked incredulously.
'I'm a gravedigger back home,' Harley explained and started off toward the luggage section of the plane.

Sara twisted her hands in the cuffs, staring daggers at Paul's back as he moved around the beach. She turned and looked the kid beside her up and down. He was wearing a ragged woolly jumper, ripped jeans and had unkempt brown hair that fell over his eyes.
'What's your name?' Sara asked, distracting him with conversation as she worked on her restraints.
'What?' the kid asked blankly, having been caught off-guard by the question.
'Your name? It's not a difficult question,' Sara mocked.
'Jacob, it's Jacob,' he said, his cheeks reddening. He looked over and locked eyes with Sara, shivering once more when he saw the dark nothingness that lay behind her eyes. Suddenly, the lock on the right-hand handcuff sprang open and Sara was free. Jacob gasped and opened his mouth to call over Agent Harding but Sara clamped her hand over his lips, enforcing his silence.
'Oh, we don't need him over here, Jakey-boy. He's a real buzz killer, that one,' Sara whispered into his ear. Panicked, Jacob thrashed his legs about in an attempt to get free. Unfortunately for him, a large scaly reptile chose that exact moment to emerge from the bushes to Jacob's left and he unwittingly clouted the animal with one of his torn red sneakers.
Rearing, it sank its fangs deep into Jacob's leg, causing him to let out a shriek that even Sara's hand couldn't stifle. Sara's head snapped toward the beach where she could see Paul searching for the source of the noise. He soon found it and began racing up the beach towards them, pulling his gun from its holster as he went.
'Shit!' Sara cursed and threw herself into the forest, Paul racing in right behind her. As his vision began to blur, Jacob stumbled toward Harley and Tony.
'Something bit me! I don't know what it was it - it disap - peared - I don't - feel so...' he mumbled, collapsing face up on the sand, blood seeping into his jeans, leaving a black stain on the denim and colouring the ground red.
