Hours Before The Sunrise

In the middle of the night
I hear the silence of the house breathing
The clock is still ticking away the many seconds til sunrise
And I'm enjoying every minute
My mind is clear, for once I'm at peace
All my troubles are eased even when they're not solved
Noise is next to nothing at all
I am engulfed in silence
It's one of the greatest feelings of all
With arms wrapped around you
No judgment or criticisms near
Complete serenity is all that is here
If I didn't have to go to bed and rest these tired eyes
I'd live forever in these moments
Of dark starlit skies where the moon resides
These precious, quiet moments that subside at sunrise

I really liked this poem. It was very descriptive. I've felt that way before in those early morning hours before dawn and reading your poem took me right to that place. Very nice job.

I really enjoyed reading this poem. It reminds me of that old saying about stopping to smell the roses. Listening to that silence in the dark is kind of like that. Great job. Thank you for your comments on my work. I hope to be adding more to that story soon so check back! :o)

I like the way I expected the narrator to be trying to sleep, but in fact they're enjoying the quiet of the hour.

I love the rhyming stanzas at the end -
'near/here; eyes/resides/sunrise', and kind of miss them earlier on.

It's as if you've written your way into the poem, and it's got better and better - but then you haven't gone back to edit the earlier lines.

I'm not always a fan of rhyme in poetry, but yours has a very unforced quality - it's beautiful.
