PAEAN FOR COFFEE

coffee incense
coffee perfume
coffee mornings
and long coffee
afternoons
the house is filled
with coffee fumes

in the timeless gardens
in the ancient shade
of shibui trees
we might think the gardeners
are half-asleep
their eyelids low, nostrils
wide, breath snore deep
moving like dreamers
towards olfactory Nirvana

earthworms love our waste
the grounds migrate to topsoil
and the crowds
to the coffee temple
Buddha takes a coffee break
his gentle hands articulate
the mudra of ...mmmMud

I've read a few of your poems today and I'm really enjoying the stories that you tell within them. To capture a moment takes talent, to capture several in one poem smoothly and with elegance is something else altogether. I'm really enjoying your writing and I hope to read more!

Parris, I love to drink coffee so the olfactory nirvana line got to me. Funny thing is I have a compost pile that includes my coffee grounds. Excellent.

"towards olfactory Nirvana" line slayed me, always appreciate the freshest imagery, and you brewed up a good one here.
