Samuel and Helena

There I was, aboard on a train
On a journey, I didn't know where
Little did I know a greater one
Was destined for me right now.

Lots of people had already sat
Until I found a vacant seat at last
Opposite there was a young lady
Looking serene in her deep slumber.

As I gazed at her casually
Her extraordinary beauty surprised me
Inspired by her charm, I pulled out a pen
A scrap of paper and started to sketch.

The moment I had finished, she woke up
To find my eyes staring at her
Then she smiled, though I didn't know why
Though I thought she found me alright.

She told me her name, which is Helena
And asked me what is mine
'Samuel,' I replied,
'Or Sam for short if you like.'

She asked what I was doing while she was asleep
And I told her I was sketching her
When I showed her my work
In an innocent way, she uttered a soft 'oh!'

She then asked if I'm a painter
I nodded and told her I would go anywhere
And search for a perfect place that would
Catch my eyes and my desire to paint.

And we talked and talked as time went by
Until the train halted and Helena stood up
She waved at the window, to a young man outside
Then waved at me and bade me goodbye.

She already got off the train before I could stop her
And I stood there, dumbfounded: there was nothing I could do
And before I knew it, the train had moved again
So I got back to my seat in despair.

How sad I became, she was such a beauty
Oh how I wish she remained here instead with me
The moment I saw, I knew I have fallen in love with her
How sad my fate was, like a painting without color

But then it was a nice experience
Having someone to talk to after days of loneliness
Even though that journey I had with her
Will end up so short, in nothingness.

Journey of love, I called it
I'd search for somebody like her
Who knew one day, I would meet another lady
Like the one in the train, perhaps even better.

But no, I couldn't find someone else
For she was the most perfect lady I ever met
And thank God, we were fated to meet again
And after a couple of years, we wed.

But the journey of love still continues
Even though God has permitted us to be together
Challenges and obstacles will surely follow
Though I'm ready to face it all for her.

Because I love her so...

I've added the last three stanzas just now, though my pen-and-paper version still has one more somewhere in the ending.

cheers ;p

This is a sweet little tale, and I like the rhythm of it. I have to agree with Grae, though, that it loses a little when the great journey suddenly becomes a nice experience.

I think you really have something here, though. Keep up the good work.
