HOMESTEAD
You never let me know which path you'd taken
Or where you'd lead me if I followed you
And I never really wanted to awaken
Or explore the maze of fear that swallowed you
I still can hear you singing in the thickets
Of the shadows and confusions that you sought
It becomes a numbing chirp like summer crickets
Not the wildwood flower of freedom that you want
I had thought to build our home here in the clearing
To have and hold, to raise and rear, to strive
But now I live in ruins of all my pioneering
As lone and lost as when you were alive
You took shadow from my light, you found doubts in all my proof
Made madness from my calm, exposed and wild beneath my roof

| Hi Lin, Guess this has been up for awhile, but it's just as beautiful as they day you wrote it. My one word for this would be, Eloquent. My sympathy for your loss. My thanks for sharing it so beautifully. Janet |

I so love this piece just as it is. Although it is sad and about loss, it reads pleasingly and says very well what, at least I think, you are saying. I kept hearing it as a song. Is that odd?
Thanks, Anna |

| Yeah, I tend to agree with alien on line 8 but the storyline you have here is very pleasing to read and I like the metaphores and imagery you use. Very well done, my opinion. |
