Before Your Time/ The Bracelet
BEFORE YOUR TIME
"We used to walk along streets lined with grass and trees. We could look up into a blue sky during the day, and feel the warmth of the sun. And the moon at night could be so beautiful. We had snowball fights in the winter, and went swimming in the summer. Oh, and you should have seen the colors of the trees in the fall. We took long rides in the country, and walked through meadows or forests. We climbed mountains just for the fun of it. And the air smelled so fresh, you could almost taste it."
Angie paused before heading out the door. Her friends were waiting for her at the ship's observation deck. The nebula they were passing promised to be a breathtaking sight. "When was that, Grandma?"
Grandma dismissed Angie's question with a wave of her hand. "Before your time, my dear. Long before your time."

THE BRACELET
"Mama? Mama! MAMA!!"
Emma sounded hysterical. Jeanie found her four-year-old daughter, Emma, up in bed with her stuffed bunny held tightly in front of her face. "What's wrong, Emma?"
Emma peeked out over Bunny. 'I saw a monstor."
Jeanine sat on the bed. "Where?"
"Undor de bed."
Jeanie set Emma on her lap. "I have an idea."
Emma perked up. "What?"
They sat on Jeanie's bed, Emma on her lap. Jeanie reached into her bedside drawer. She clasped a little figaro chain around Emma's wrist so it wouldn't fall off.
Emma looked up at her mother, her face lighting up. "What is it?"
"It's a magical bracelet."
Emma was enchanted. "A magical bwacewick?"
"A scare-away-the-monsters bracelet," Jeanine whispered.
"Does it work?"
Jeanie looked around. "Do you see any monsters?"
Emma looked, too. "No."
Jeanie tucked her daughter back into bed. Emma was asleep almost immediately.
