Is Life Just a Cliche

I am so tired of cliches;
love is like a red, red rose
What kind of nonsense is that
and what can it mean?
Even he who first thought of it
cannot know.

Another good one -
just give it time, time heals,
yes it can
But I have news
for those who utter without thought
That elusive, soothing time
waits for no man!

Can one really die from a broken heart,
or be scared to death,
believe the phoenix really rose from the ashes.
Walk the walk; talk the talk,
just a waste of breath.

We should think before we speak,
let all our words be true
Not live by parrot-learned phrases,
live meaningless lives,
Not repeat the dross,
let our own thoughts shine through.

But I understand
that it;s easier and simpler to say
what first comes to mind -
it can be so hard to change
Believe me -
Wait for it......

Have a nice day!

I like your wry sense of humor. I think "How are you?" is a rhetorical question said to be polite. Nobody wants to hear about your aches and pains and difficulties unless it's your mother.
I don't think life is a cliche, but I do think life begats cliches. Someone observes something and makes such a clever remark about it that people repeat it until it becomes a cliche. I think cliches demonstrate intellectual laziness. It's so much easier to repeat something clever than it is to think something up for ourselves. Umm, I hope that doesn't open a can or worms.
In the 4th paragraph did you mean ...not live by "parroting" learned phrases?
A fun read, Brigitte.

thanks for the kind words and I am glad I made you smile! Are we all not guilty of filling our conversations with cliches? I really try not to - if I ask someone 'how are you?' I actually do want to know!!!!! or I wouldn't ask :) So - how are you?

Very cool. I like the questioning and introspective tone of it. Great ending too. Unpredictable.

"There and Back Again"

by brigitte liebenberg

A powerful, poetic journey back from the brink - literally! The poetry in this book is a direct result of the creative processes started by entering therapy for depression. The poetry speaks for itself and allows others to relate to the content in their own ways.
