Lord of the Flies

I thought I saw Satan swimming
Somewhere in the sand or the water
Skimming the sea’s fingers with a mouth-
piece brimming, full of our fear.
They say there’s quite a beastie here
One for a record book taking
our hearts and minds in earth quaking
Anticipation of our pretensions this crook
of the jungle’s leaves our eyes deceives.
We have captains but the infantry is with
the pagans, I’m sure we had some unity
which soon will be mistaken for a hand-
laid meteor that God made to show us
we are forsaken.
The littluns cry out in the motherless night.
yearning for the days for the chance to say
they want the only fray in their lives
to be back praying they’ll sing alright.
Each passing minute I unfold my
mind till there is no lasting chance
there is anything passive in it.
They are all returning to the hideous
lively shows of primal woes
discerning their ups and downs
but only the former concerns them.
While we sleep our fathers and uncles
play cowboys and Indians above us
For keeps.
The game just keeps going and will
soon find its name on our terrain
who can complain? It’s our lot in
Life.

Good internal rhyme: "of the jungle’s leaves our eyes deceives".

Ann inspiring statement: "Each passing minute I unfold my
mind till there is no lasting chance
there is anything passive in it."

Again, striking and powerful images. Ony one tiny nit: place a comma instead of a period after "motherless night" and the same after "the days" in the next line.

Wonderful stuff.

Beelzebub---Satan---Lord of the Flies.

The Biblical imagery in this is well done.

I have a piece in my book called "Devil's Game" that I'll post for you and others to see and compare with this.

They are all returning to the hideous
lively shows of primal woes
<<Very effective imagery here!

Blessings.
