nighttime walk

my shadow stretches into the night,
my legs are tired.
stomp! stomp! my feet scream at the sidewalk.
look at the stars.
i wish for the wooly warmth of january,
soft gloves around my hands
and for once i don't wish for radiant beauty,
men flitting around,
fireflies with grins that glint in the night,
stares that tickle my back.
my feet echo, pound against the pavement
and headlights follow my shadow around as
i walk through the palm-stained glass doors.
the night sky has changed-
i can't see my star anymore
but it doesn't matter.
as i walk inside, my wishes have changed.

The visual imagery here is quite excellent. Palm stained glass door, how wonderful, I can see it now.
