Headache

A tension drags
On my dry skin
Veins pop up
On my clammy hands
My mouth is a desert
Our last kiss
Blotted out
By passing hours
Drags of smoke
Cocktails
Fitless sleeping

Thoughts are trapped
In cycles
Gloomy grimaces
Edge my smiles
I cannot comprehend
This pointless time
But your absence
Now explains
Why I grit my teeth
As I laugh
And hunch my shoulders
In defiance of life

Nicely written. I particularly like your last three lines, they round the poem off beautifully.

It's good to see new work from you Frances. More please! : )

I really like this poem, I like that it has a physicality and simplicity to it at the same time as I like the feeling you create through your choice of words.
