My Place
It's my place to look you in the eye
and proudly murmur I love you
while I knew in my heart
it can't be true
It's my place to wait blindly
for my moment to come shining
not knowing that it had already been stolen
by you
It's my place to step down to let you pass
watch while you grasp
the dream, my joy, my pride
that I've been waiting a lifetime to pursue
It's my place to bend over backwards
break my back
day and night
just for you
its my place to be called nigguh
heathen, scheming jiggaboo
then turn my cheek
for there's nothing I can do
It's my place to be stepped on,
walked on, trampled on
not to utter one word of reproach, or even remorse
Because I know what's coming to you
Oh, yes, in the end it will be my place to rise against all odds
Conquer, prosper, regain all
Jubilantly watch the wicked stumble
the humble soar
and the righteous live
forever more.
