Trail of Tears #2

The white man lied to us
Their broken promises scatter across our sacred lands
And forced us from our homes
With a smile and a shake of the hand
While plotting our removal and demise
Why, us, do they despise?

The white man lied to us
They call us savage and crude
What do they know of these?
Our people die every day on this trail of forgotten treaties of blankets and food
Stealing our lands and forcing us onto reservations
While grooming us for the white man's nation.

The white man lied to us
Our lives now changed forever in history
The past left behind upon a trail of tears
The present left to fate and misery
Our future unknown in a land of uncertainty.

This one hit home, and so very true. Being native myself, I feel just how you wrote it, "The white man lied to us..." Good job!
