Fate and Fear
The world has changed yet again. With the coming and goings of new ideas, new governments, new people, this world is a place of never ending change. Life is very short indeed. One moment you’re sure of your foundations and security, the next moment you watch as everything you built into your life crumbles around you.
There is no way of knowing when these winds of change will come your way. When they do they are like a tornado ripping everything you once knew into pieces. Over time, you adapt to the new changes, after all, that is part of being an intelligent being. However, some of these changes will have effects that will forever change the outlook of the person whom change afflicted.
Time could be the simple factor in all of this. A lot of the time you will hear people say things will change in good time, so why not hold every bad change against time? Time really has no feelings one way or another, and time itself didn’t let your pet dog die last year, but it is an easy out. An example; “I guess it was his/her time to go”.
If it is someone’s time to go; doesn’t that mean that there was an ultimate plan all along; a written out screenplay of a single character’s full life and eventual death on the dusty shelves of life. Could this ultimate plan be what we call fate, or does God fit into this picture. After all, the Bible does tell us He knew our name before we are born.
Not bringing in deep religious dogma into this would probably be the best since there are so many religions with so many differing beliefs on this topic. Fate, however, is an interesting topic.
Many people detest the very idea of a pre-ordained existence. They think that each of their movements and actions are theirs and theirs alone. Do not discredit them; they very well may be right after all, no one knows for sure how fate works if it works at all.
Fate is the idea that everything that we do in life right down to a seemingly random sneeze is all scripted. If that is the case then many people would be upset because that would mean people who commit murders would have a scapegoat by saying it was fate. If fate was ever proven to exist by science I believe we would have chaos in the streets.
As for the way fate shows itself right now, it is a good thing. It’s liberating to be able to say, “Everything happens for a reason” and then just walking away from something negative that has happened. By letting those things that have happened in the past stay in the past and not worrying about things that are to come is a sense of freedom that even religions strive for to this day.
By thinking like this you allow yourself for more error. Most of us in our everyday lives are so captivated by trying to right the wrongs that have transpired that we forget to see the good that has happened around us. We are either too rushed or simply don’t care that within our lives there isn’t just negative factors to weigh us down, there are also positive factors to bring us up.
There has been a major difference in the way that the Americas have acted since September 11th 2001. The fear that was generated from that event rippled throughout the entire world. But now, seven years later, the human mind has become obsessed with getting things done fast, anger towards another if something is done wrong, and horrible war.
These are the brainchildren of fear. Fear is the driving force behind nearly every single human action. Why do we brush our teeth at night? Not only does it keep your teeth clean, but it also stifles your human instinct fear of not looking good. Think about, after you brush your teeth tonight say out loud, “There, now I can rest because I cleaned my teeth and that’s another night that I don’t have to fear them being brown, or worse, falling out.” Once you say that out loud, I don’t think you will have any doubt that it is true. Humans are creatures driven by fear, fear of everything.
If we were to come to accept fate, why would we have to fear anything? Fear would be useless because we know that no matter how hard we try to keep our teeth dazzlingly white, if it is fate for them to be broken in a car accident, then they will be.
Fate is a strange thing indeed. It would seem that believing in a fate could be a religion all its own. If not a religion, then at the very least, fate could be something embraced as a faith. Strange as that might sound, it’s true. Whenever we believe in something with our whole mind, it becomes reality for us. Thus is the practice of religions world wide.
One thing about religions is just that last topic. Religions have been accused time and time again for brainwashing people. As far as I am concerned this is a very wrong judgment. People are molded by what they believe and so the people who are explaining the faith are doing nothing more than that. It’s dependant on the person who is listening to believe what they want from the teachings.
An example would be: There is a Church that has laid back ministry, they teach the good news of the bible and touch occasionally on the end times because that is what the Christian faith has really become about; the return of Christ. Now, out of their entire congregation, there is one person who takes it a step further and begins to march the streets of any town shouting at the top of their lungs; “We are in the end times!” and “Repent!” They will site Biblical passages, most of the time these passages are out of context, and they will call those who don’t listen to them evil-doers, or worse, demons. That’s only one person out of an entire church, and only an example.
The person who became radical heard what he or she wanted to hear, warped it to his or her own liking, and then started a crusade to have everyone saved. The radical still had the best intentions in mind, but the way the radical went about telling others bothers them.
Why?
The radical plays off the fears that already exist in most people’s minds. If people don’t fear the end of the world, they do fear their own death, nearly everyone does.
Fear and fate, these are the two forces in this world we know little about but we deal with them daily. To understand one might lead to a greater knowledge of the other. Fate is the script that has every moment of our life recorded and ready for us to play out unconsciously. Fear is what drives us to do nearly everything we know to do in this complex world. Which is the lesser of the two evils?
