Shut Up and Go Around Me, City
City, go away, do you even want to know me?
I am alone surrounded by a rabbit warren
of other people’s personal angst.
The city is a selfish place.
It is loveless.
Tens of thousands of self-lovers
queuing to be noticed by other selfish reflections.
In the city they all just want a piece of me,
then they leave.
Rent, bills, take your piece, see you later, who is left?
Am I here?
Do I exist?
Hello? Human beings, are you there?
Where is your laughter,
where is your warm hug and kiss,
where is the silence you can fill with one beautiful song?
You all want me to validate you.
You loud little city people.
You don’t want me, you want me to tell you that you exist.
One rabbit special amongst acres of rabbits.
I will stay silent.
I am sick of booty calls made at your convenience.
I am sick of the silence between.
I will not come running.
I am sick of being in everyone’s way.
Sigh and tsk and fidget all you want, heaving dramas of your inconvenience,
then taking from me all you can;
I will go at my own speed.
Go around me.
Just go.
