Hyphenmerger

The ball and chain is overfed and underpaid
She laid all day in bed again today

Under lock and key a wedding ring
and that’s your stately goal
to imitate and parody
those antiquated roles

And ignorance could be enlightenment
if you’d just keep your eyes closed
like meditation a refutation
of exterior authority

Unfortunately the song and dance came in off-cue
She can’t keep up the pace or face up to the truth

For rock n’ roll they sold their souls
and now they’re fat and pale
and dying but the corporate lords
still buy them wholesale

And apathy could be enlightenment
if we really didn’t care
but too many folk with neck-in-yoke
have too much time to spare
