.44 Caliber Love Letter Straight from the Heart

44 Caliber Love Letter Straight from the Heart

My mind draws to a blank

As your hand draws for the gun

Down on my knees with the pistol pressed firmly to my temple

Keep you shaky finger on the trigger until I feel exactly how you tell me to

My eyes dart back and forth between your empty pupils and you steady gun-yielding hand

Press the barrol of the gun harder against my head

As you rearrange the thoughts in yours

Your mouth shoots pretty nothing in the air

Aimed straight for my heart

"I'll give you one more shot,"

You get my hopes up, just to let them fall in the same breath...

"but only if I can pull the trigger."

You laugh. Demented.

Pull the trigger the nightmares over

Or so you thought

Wake up screaming to blood splattered walls and my lifeless body next to yours

Hands caked with blood, forehead dripping sweat

The gun still smoking from the shot to my head

For the nightmare you were supposed to have woken up from

Not woke up to.

I didn't feel the way you wanted me to.

I can picture this whole poem taking place over six seconds. There was once a short story that was written about a guy who was about to be hung, and read sort of like this, and had the guy imagining his escape, and for a while, the reader thought he had escaped, but then it ended with the guy being hung. I often call this the "train of thought" way of writing, and it's one of my favorites. Nicely done!

That was interesting... very graphic, awesome way of saying... you can't tell me what to do and you can't make me feel how you want me to feel. Good work.
