One Last Time

All the young men who went off to war
Will always remember the horrors they saw
It's effect on them we will never know
Their emotions, they will never show
In a cold sweat, they wake with loud screams
At night when bad memories fill their dreams
Not too sure if it was all real
Especially the tears they do feel

Every year on one special date
They all gather to remember a lost mate
With all the tears that they do cry
Filled with memories they look to the sky
When they think of a lost friend
They think of all the good times again
Wanting to see them with eyes dry
And just one last chance to say goodbye

Thankyou to everyone who reads this poem.
I wrote this 9 years ago when I was 16 doing year 10 english - it was for class though I didn't recieve top marks.
I wrote it with ANZACs in mind (me being Australian) but you are correct sarra it can be interpreted for anyone who has ever served their country in war and either been killed or missing in action and never found.
In Australian on April 25th every year it is called ANZAC Day and the country stops to remember those fallen.
I am glad sarra that your man was able to make it home to you.

As my man just got back from the
Army serving for four years and was in Kuwait and other dangerous sites, I know for a fact exactly what you're saying in the line the critic below was pointing out. If a battle buddy, a good best dear friend, fellow soldier, gets KIA, you always remember that date every year. This poem truly struck home for me.

Matter of fact, my man is getting his first tattoo at 37 years of age; it's his buddy who was KIA; his name, date of birth and death - and the unit they were in.

Wow! You are too good, gal.

One problem: The first two lines of the second section were confusing. Who are you referencing there? Try and be a little more specific without disrupting flow. Aside from that, once again, you have sent senses a-tingling.
