Inspire me to love you
To be loved by you
Melt this frozen heart
Make it burn for you.

Make me fly
Surrounded by wings of love
Free my soul
Break the chains around my heart.

Take me away
In the warmth of your embrace
And hold me tight
I don't want to fall away.

Show me
Its okay to fall in love again
That I don't have to be afraid
'Cause you'll be there to hold my hand.

Kiss me
And make me forget all my pain
Touch me
With the melody of your voice.

Teach me
To trust my heart once again
To hear the call of your heart
Singing to mine from miles away.

Sing to me in my sleep
Whisper words of love and tenderness
Sing to me in the morning
So I'll never forget your love for me.

Surprise me
With nights of passion
Romance me
With midnight kisses.

Dare me
To let my spirit soar
To be myself when I'm with you
But always dare me
Not to live without your love.

Obviously this poem speaks from previous injuries, i.e. the “frozen heart” and with “chains,” the speaker wants to “forget… pain,” “fall in love again”… but why then does the poem emphasize the lover it seeks as one who will be lasting. On the surface it obviously searches for the kind of “true” love most people want but never get, but deconstructed it more accurately identifies and presents a vicious circle encouraged by unobtainable expectations. This poem is actually depressing for me, and reminds me of dependent lovers who do not recognize the patterns of their romantic habits. Not to say the poem’s aim is not beautiful or worthwhile, I just see the kind of generic, unrealistic courtly love found in fairy tales.
