Compass Rose
The north pole is her navel –
the south, the small of her back just above
the cleft of buttock.
The valleys of her waist and hips are east and west.
Each areola – northwest and northeast.
The curve of each cheek – southwest and southeast.
Her palms are sun and moon.
Her feet are Mars and Venus.
She is stellar, solar, lunar, earthen.
Laugh lines around her eyes
are the cracked clay of the desert.
The foliage between her legs is rainforest.
She has a magnetism that draws her
into her own embrace when her arms
cradle her torso like petals.
Her tears are the rain,
her eyes are the clouds through which
she yearns to see her own beauty.
