THAT NIGHT
That very night
When all his host
Knocked at the gate of our castle
You were so close,
My hithermost,
With eyes,
The two resplendent vessels.
You tried
To keep your fright suppressed,
Seeming to me almost courageous . . .
With trembling hands
And burning chest
I ran
To look out through embrasures.
I've seen the armies.
No more doubt,
The verdict has been passed with laughter,
His men will carry all it out,
Put us to death
So shortly after.
The horror of upcoming end -
A shivering,
An icy stupor,
When hearts
Meet swords and knives from hand
Of merciless and faceless trooper.
God likes the Trinity,
So why,
Making us threesome,
He arranges
Menelaus come to terrify
Up the Troadic walls
With vengeance? . .
That night
His hand knocked at the door
Of our bedroom
With us nestled
Up to each other . . .
How adored
Were eyes of yours,
The dazzling vessels!
