Eucalyptus Park
We lean into the stone wall,
your eyes on my lips
as I inventory our surroundings:
ant highways interrupt the cold patio;
layers of dust and leaves
blanket the cracked concrete;
Eucalyptus trees that reached
like skyscrapers, now tilt,
sloughing rotten wood;
the shrill chatter of children playing
rushes toward us on the wind…
He leans in and kisses me.
