Wanting, Will, and Having

That window-pane you’re leaning through
Broke long before you knew your pain
Shows the new love your sight longs for
To cite redemption from darkness
The road’s a stretch, I’ve rode down it
Wrote it down and slept beside her
I woke up then slipped back to sleep

The company of your great friends
Grating life against their cities
Allowed themselves to carry on
Our secrets spoken out aloud
I could accept them in the past
Except that I had once been there
All that we want when we’re alone
